Being involved in an accident that causes harm to another person can be a devastating experience. This type of ordeal can weigh heavily on a person’s heart, and if authorities believe that alcohol was a contributing factor, the person will also have more concerns as criminal charges are likely. Unfortunately, if a car accident led to the death of another person, charges for DWI and more could result.
One woman in North Carolina is currently facing such charges after a recent incident involving a bicyclist. Reports stated that the 25-year-old woman was driving a car when she purportedly hit a 56-year-old woman who was riding a bicycle on the roadway. The driver reportedly left the scene before authorities arrived, and the bicyclist was transported to an area hospital. Sadly, she succumbed to the injuries she suffered.
The report did not indicate what information authorities gathered on the driver, but nonetheless, they later located the suspect. She was taken into custody and is currently facing charges for felony hit and run, DWI, and driving on a revoked license. It was unclear what may have warranted the drunk driving charge because no information regarding blood alcohol content was provided. It was noted that additional charges could result.
This North Carolina woman undoubtedly regrets the outcome of the situation and likely did not intend to cause anyone harm. Still, she now has serious charges to contend with concerning DWI, and other allegations could also come against her. It certainly is in her best interest to begin considering her criminal defense options as soon as possible.
